Aniket Patil's heart was heavy with the weight of two tragic incidents that had shaken him to the core.
The first incident was the sudden death of his friend, who had taken his own life just a day after Gokulashtami in 2013. Aniket had arrived on the scene only 15-20 minutes after he heard news of his friend hanged, but it was already too late. He had cut the rope on which the body was hung and tried desperately to resuscitate him, but it was too late and was of no use. A heartbreaking reality that would haunt Aniket for years to come.
He started gaining more knowledge in field of disaster management and spreading more and more awareness within people by working with Civil Defence Officials.
The second incident occurred on the night of August 2nd, 2016 British Era's Mahad Savitri River bridge collapsed. Aniket had rushed to the disaster site with the Civil Defense Team, but due to protocol and orders from higher officials, they were not allowed to enter the river, due to the strong water current and lack of rescue material with them. Aniket watched helplessly as the rescue operation was already delayed, and he knew that lives could have been saved if the locals had known search and rescue and their team had been given the green light to act.
These two traumatic experiences weighed heavily on Aniket's conscience. He couldn't shake the feeling that he could have done more, that he should have been able to save his friend and the victims of the bridge collapse. The guilt and frustration gnawed at him, robbing him of his peace of mind.
Determined to prevent such tragedies from happening again, Aniket set out to find like-minded individuals who shared his passion for emergency response and disaster management. He founded the SDMA Association and worked tirelessly to register the organization, hoping to create a network of volunteers who could respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.
Aniket's drive and dedication were fueled by the memory of those he had lost and the lives he wished he could have saved. He knew that the road ahead would be long and challenging, but he was committed to making a difference, ensuring that no one else would have to experience the pain and helplessness he had felt.
As Aniket poured his heart and soul into the SDMA, he found solace in the knowledge that he was honoring the memories of his friend and the victims of the bridge collapse. With each life he helped save, he felt a small measure of the burden lift from his shoulders, and he knew that he was on the path to finding the peace he so desperately sought.
